Espresso Machines versus Drip Coffeemakers: Which One Should You Invest In?
When you have coffee in the morning, are you the one-cup drinker, or do you usually need a couple more to get your day going? If you don’t take coffee as a perk-me-up drink, then you might still want to invest in a good machine whenever you are entertaining guests. Whether you’re an occasional or heavy coffee drinker, it definitely pays to invest in a good machine that will give you a good brew whenever you find the need for one of the most popular beverages in the world.
There are plenty of coffee machines which are available in the market today. Choosing one is all a matter of catering to your personal tastes, setting a limit on your budget and considering the frequency by which you drink coffee so that you can invest in a good machine. Here, we’ll take a look at two of the most popular types of coffee machines in the market: espresso machines and slow-drip coffee makers.
How Espresso Machines Work
When you line up for a cup of coffee to go in a chain store, do you usually order an extra shot of espresso? If you do, then an espresso machine may be ideal for you.
This is one of the most popular types of coffee machines in the market today. There are a few types of espresso machines that you can choose from: semi-automatic, fully automatic and there are even super automatic models. However, the same basic principles apply to make a perfectly good shot of espresso.
After coffee beans are ground, pressure is applied to extract a shot of espresso from the coffee.
Depending on the machine that you will buy, you can have an espresso maker with all the bells and whistles – or something with just the basic functionality.
How about Slow-Drip Coffee Makers?
Another option that you can go for is the slow-drip coffee maker. Yet another popular type of coffee maker which can be seen in most homes and hotels, you can choose a size based on your coffee-brewing needs. There are slow drip coffee makers ideal for one cup, 6 cups or 12 cups. In an office setup where coffee is taken almost round the clock, you can choose a slow-drip coffee maker which brews drinks right on schedule.
Unlike espresso coffee makers which produce a pure shot of espresso which is more concentrated, slow-drip coffee makers are for brewed coffee lovers. The way that the machine works is by using a filter for the ground coffee, where water is slowly passed through so that the coffee flavor and the liquid will mix.
Making a Selection between the Two
As mentioned earlier, it is better to get the espresso maker if you often order another shot of espresso with your drink orders when visiting a store. On the other hand, if you only want a reasonably good cup of coffee without getting that instant coffee mix taste, then a good slow-drip coffee maker should be an excellent addition to your kitchen.

5 Easy Tips For Finding The Best Drip Coffee Maker
Electric coffee makers seem to be the most popular small kitchen appliance that exists. Do you know many people that don’t have one? I know people that live simple, in small places but the one appliance they wouldn’t be without is their coffee maker. With the higher cost of this popular caffeinated beverage and less income many people are opting to make it at home even more than before. But now that you’re hooked on the good stuff from the coffee shop you may wonder how you can make it better at home.
Making a better brew at home is dependent on the coffee you use but also on the maker you use. The experts seem to agree on a few things that you should look for in your next electric coffee maker.
The Heat Of The Water
To get the best extraction from the beans the water needs to consistently remain at a high enough temperature. A good consistent temperature is 200 degrees. Unfortunately many don’t get to this temperature, most are in the range of 165 to 180 degrees. For the very best cup of joe look for the higher temperature.
Electric Coffee Maker Features
Don’t spend more money for extra features you don’t need just because they sound fun or interesting. The main purpose of the drip coffee maker is to make a good cup of coffee. Too many machines offer extra features that distract from their main function. Having a timer with a grinder may be an important feature for you so you can have a nice fresh pot waiting for you in the morning. Freshly ground beans do make a better cup. But you don’t need that glow in the dark clock.
Thermal Carafe
Speaking of features, one of the main things my husband looked for in our latest purchase was one that came with a thermal carafe, and that’s been his favorite feature. A thermal carafe is vital to keep the flavor of your coffee fresh. Without a carafe it will oxidize and continue to be reheated by the heating plate causing it to get burnt, bitter flavor over time. This process starts pretty quickly, so unless you’re going to drink it right away a thermal carafe is vital to retain the best flavor.
Easy To Maintain
Having a maker that is easy to clean and maintain also means better flavor. If the coffee maker gets dirty because it’s too difficult to clean it will affect the flavor of your fresh brew.
Durability Of The Drip Coffee Maker
Once you find that perfect drip coffee maker you want it to last. Besides that buying cheap makers can end up costing you more over time because they don’t last as long. If you buy a sturdy coffee maker with more metal parts than plastic it will last longer, which is important if you make it daily. For help with this you can read consumer reviews online to see what experience others have had.
The coffee maker you use truly can affect the flavor of your coffee. If you love and appreciate the complex flavors that can be found in a good cup you’ll want to do some reading before buying your next electric coffee maker.

Drip Coffee Makers – What You Need to Know to Brew Coffee Right
If you love coffee and want to drink it at home regularly, you simply have to investigate drip coffee makers. Drip coffee makers provide a simple yet effective way to create a delicious pot of coffee in the comfort of your home. But what should you consider when evaluating different types of drip coffee makers?
These drip coffee makers operate by slowly dripping hot water through ground coffee collected in a filter. There the hot water collects and brews, with only the hot flavored liquid dripping through the filter into a cup or pot or carafe.
There are different kinds of filters, but the filters don’t change the process. They do, however, change the flavor. For example, a gold mesh filter allows some of the oils and sediment to flow through into the pot, providing a more bold flavored coffee. A paper filter arguably makes a more crisp cup of coffee, but it is up to debate whether it is healthful or not.
Some argue the oils removed by paper filters make the coffee healthier because those oils contain unnecessary fats.
Others claim the amount of fat is minuscule and that some of these oils are actually high in antioxidants. My opinion is that it doesn’t make much of a difference and that is more a matter of personal taste.
The other variant you control with a drip coffee maker is the speed of the brew. How fast does it brew? Again, there are two fields of thought on this matter. Some believe a fast brew with some pressure to the water (to help force it through the grounds and through the filter) keeps the flavor more fresh.
Others believe a coffee machine which allows the water collect and sit in the filter among the grounds enables the water to collect more flavor from the grounds before seeping into the pot.
I personally believe the slower brew provides a more rich and full-bodied flavor.
I hope this provides you with some useful information to consider when contemplating the right drip coffee makers for your particular circumstance.

Question by Aston M: How long does it take drip coffee to become stale/unsafe? (black coffee, no milk, sugar etc)?
At room temperature, it lies in the coffee maker. How long can I let it lie before I have to throw it out?
Best answer:
Answer by cogenerate
Well, coffee doesn’t become “unsafe”, but when left at room temperature it will grow mold around the surface of the coffee. If you place it in a pitcher in the refrigerator, it will prevent the mold and you can just zap a cup in your microwave for a minute when you want some. Personally, I kinda like iced coffee, too.
I bought a Tassimo (single-cup) coffee maker so I wouldn’t have to do any of that anymore.

Question by Cnl Delta: When I use pre ground coffee, my drip coffee maker gets clogged?
It works fine with coffee I ground myself in a mill using the medium/normal setting (in between coarse and fine) but when I use pre-ground coffee, the machine clogs and no coffee drips out. I’ve had the same issue with 2 different machines.
What could I be missing or not doing when using store bought pre-ground coffee that’s causing the machine to clog?

It sounds like the store-bought coffee is too fine. Are you sure you’re buying the drip-coffee grind? It sounds like you’re buying the espresso grind.

Question by jack p: How do you remove the brown discoloring on a white drip coffee maker?
I have a white Mr Coffee coffee maker that is easy to clean except for one place. That is the part just above the drip basket, where the hot water drips into the basket. The basket is also discoloring, but not as much as the above part. I have tried formula 409 and scorering powder but it has little effect.

I use bleach to clean mine; but it actually is a pretty thankless job since it really doesn*t change the taste of the coffee one way or another. and unless you have a cleaning obsession there is no reason to worry about it. Try running white vinegar through the coffee maker about once a month to keep it clear

Question by shuttle_launch: How do you convert an automatic drip coffee brewer to an pour over?
I have a automatic drip air pot coffee maker, but I don’t want to hook it up to plumbing. Can I just run a hose from something like water bottle into the water inlet still have it work?

Answer by Tin S
It’s possible, but no practical. It would be more problem to do than installing to water line. And do you know what a pain it is to keep adding water. You can get a water line for a automatic ice maker for a fridge, and install that. Its easy. Good luck.
